"Flowers for the Chakra Mandala" by Denise Mattes

$475.00

According to ancient Hindu and Buddhist philosophy, chakras are the seven energy centers of the body. Used in meditation practice to enhance awareness, each chakra has its own color and characteristics, symbolized by such flowers depicted in this artwork.

Crown: Purple Lotus / Third Eye: Indigo Delphinium / Throat: Blue Bell / Heart: White Jasmine / Solar Plexus: Yellow Forsythia / Sacral: Orange Tiger Lily / Root: Red Poppy Mandala, a Sanskrit word meaning circle, is an intricate design often destroyed after it is created to symbolize the impermanent nature of all things.

To enhance our awareness and confront us with the choices we make, I create art from plastic (discarded bags and single-use containers). Plastic generates an immense volume of greenhouse gases because of the fossil fuels used throughout its lifecycle from extraction to production. Greenhouse gases intensify climate change resulting in temperatures too warm and rainfall too much or too little for flowers to thrive. Fewer flowers weaken our ecosystems, lessening pollen and food for all living things.

All sale proceeds are donated to environmental causes.
