It's exciting to share some of my recent work. While I have focused on painting flowers and landscapes for the past 10 years. I have begun exploring fauna just this past year. I particularly enjoy incorporating butterflies and birds alongside their favorite flowers. I thought this piece really represented my current work.

I find the pairing of a Swallowtail with Zinnias to be so iconic. Both separately make me so happy so it was a joy to capture the vibrant yellow and blue tones of the Tiger Swallowtail and contrast it with a fuchsia Zinnia. And then framed in real barn-wood to keep them theme of the outdoors through the piece.

Regarding my process, I work exclusively with traditional transparent watercolors, avoiding the use of gouache. I achieve opacity and rich hues by slowly layering colors to build depth. It's a process that takes time but I just find it incredible all the ways you can use watercolors.
