Sewing is humbling. The first perils involve threading the needle without pricking yourself, choosing the correct thread length (not too short or too long), avoiding tangles, and keeping the stitches small, straight, and uniform. It may be sloppy, but it is still creative. For each project, I photographed an art piece and printed the image onto the cloth using special iron-on adhesive.

There is a mother koala with her baby in a tree. The koala originated from a scratchboard project. The cloth is printed with leaves, and an actual stick and some shiny buttons/pins are sewn onto the quilt. Some elements depict leaves; the stars depict the Southern Cross. “Down Under” refers to Australia, or “Under the tree” is the image of my Boxing Kangaroo from the Advocate’s Show with some wires sewn on it. Using artistic license to make a mess, I created a tangle of different colored threads depicting a sunset.
