“Tripping Through The Sixties Board Game” by Patrick Beamish
With this one project, it was about being creative and having fun. It was to be a board game and in colors that were to be ugly. That was challenging because for artists, colors are supposed to be fun and beautiful. I thought about things from the 1960s/70s that I thought were hideous such as shag carpets and lava lamps, so I hope I don’t offend any hippies-at-heart. So, let’s begin as if we were playing a game. I just hope that I am not violating any copyrights here. I choose colors that clash, such as yellow and purple, red and green, and blue and orange. Have fun trying to guess some of the spaces and test your knowledge of the 1960s. This is all relative and very subjective, and it is seen through innocent eyes, but it was time in American history where a lot of cultural, political, social upheaval was happening, and sadly through a lot of violence. I don’t mean to whitewash any of it.I was in diapers at that time. The Starts begin as one can hear or imagine the song of Aquarius by 5th Dimension, the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius or Good Morning, Starshine, by Oliver. You roll the dice, and it is one, will you do your own thing, such as Make Love, Not War or Back to the Future, the 80s, so take a trip to the future and enjoy the trappings or tripping of the 80s such as many hues of hair or Rubrik’s cube. You may stay there for as long as you want, or a draw card. You may be unlucky and go to one corner, having a PTSD flashback to Vietnam or go to the nearest space that stays tripping. Once you are back on the Peace Sign Symbol, you may roll the dice again. Many of your own things will take you far out. I hope you get my drift. Warning, you may get the Vietnam corner again, you may land on Groovy or Square. If you choose to be groovy, you may continue to trip on this game until more than one player lands on Disco Duck or the 80s, then this Groovy Decade ends. There is the Union Jack flag which represents British Invasion, name all four of the Beatles from youngest to oldest or if you prefer, the 1980s, and if you were in the 80s, think of some artists or groups from that period. Have fun and be groovy or square. If you want to be square, then the decade or game will be over for you, so stay in your house behind the white picket fence of Squareville.
