If you spent any time, this past weekend enjoying the chalk art on Main Street during Chalkfest, and you had a child telling you “Mom! I want to do that…”, we have have the perfect solution for you!
Chalk It Up! is a class run by Katie Walters, she was our staff feature in May, that is four mornings, one at the Center and three chalking the design on location! Limited space remains! Grab a spot and make your child’s imagination run wild this summer!
Adult Classes
We have our monthly Thursday morning paint pour with Sybil Swanson coming up! If you missed June’s, don’t worry, we have another technique planned for July 14th, “String Pull”. These paint pour classes are a fun way to spend some time with friends before heading out for lunch! Nancy Larson is back on the schedule with an urban sketch and paint class and a series of watercolor skills classes.
Again, these are selling fast! Grab a seat at the table and have some fun!
We are always looking for more art teachers, and our new Education Director, Kris Holtmeyer, would love to hear from you!
Art Fair
The Art Fair, July 16-17th, is being planned. We are now in the final stages of artist placement, promotion and other good stuff, to make this a fair to remember! We will have kids art goodie bags again at the Maple Grove Arts Center tent. We are also partnering with Bitty Kitty Brigade again this year. Full disclosure, stopping there may you fall in love with a kitten!

Meet the Volunteers at Maple Grove Arts Center
Last month you “met” Katie. This month our feature is Dan McAvey.
Dan McAvey,
Board Director
Dan McAvey is an award-winning artist whose work explores human connections through the genre of landscape painting. His work has been featured in solo and group shows in the greater Minneapolis area and is collected by a national audience. Dan teaches studio art in collegiate and community settings, empowering students to adopt a spirit of experimentation in their work and to embrace failure as a joyful part of developing their art. You’re as likely to find Dan painting in his studio as you are to find him with his easel on a bike trail in Elm Creek Park!
Dan recently earned an MFA in Visual Studies from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Prior to pursuing art full-time, he spent 20 years working in psychology and human development. Dan holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Carleton College.
Want to Get More Involved?
We are always looking for more volunteers and have a page here that details specific opportunities we have available.
